Cheaper Home Batteries Program

Get 30% off your installed battery after 1st July 2025

Winter is knocking, and with it comes the seasonal spike in energy bills as Aussie households and small businesses try to stay warm. The Australian Labor Government has just announced a $2.3 billion Cheaper Home Batteries Program, making solar batteries more affordable for homes, small businesses, and community facilities across the country. While 1 in 4 Australian homes already has solar panels, only 1 in 40 has a battery system, but that’s about to change. This landmark initiative is expected to support the installation of 1 million solar batteries by 2030. Let DQ Electrical help you beat the winter rush and start saving now!

What You
Need to Know

From 1 July 2025, eligible households, small businesses, and community facilities will have access to a new federal rebate that reduces the upfront cost of installing a solar battery.

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program offers up to 30% off the cost of an installed battery — potentially saving the average home up to $2,300 per year on electricity bills. That’s a reduction of up to 90% off a typical family’s energy costs.

Of course, every home and business is different, so let DQ Electrical guide you to the best battery solution tailored for your needs.

Is Installing a
Battery Worth It?

Absolutely. Installing a solar battery is one of the smartest ways to get more value from your solar setup, especially during South Australia’s shorter winter days.

Even with just 4–5 hours of winter sunshine, pairing your solar panels with a battery (like the Tesla Powerwall or BYD) lets you store excess energy to use during peak hours, reducing reliance on the grid and maximising your savings.

Instead of feeding power back into the grid for minimal return, store it and use it when electricity prices are highest — helping you save up to $2,300 annually through the Cheaper Home Batteries Program.

Plus, with electricity prices expected to rise another 5% in July 2025, installing a battery now also helps future-proof your energy costs and adds backup protection in the event of outages.

How to claim the
Government Rebate?

To qualify, your home or business must already have solar installed. If you don’t have solar yet, DQ Electrical can help you get started now, so you’re ready well before 1 July.

Can’t wait until July 2025? No worries! Systems installed before 1 July are still eligible for the rebate if they’re switched on after the start date, meaning you can install now and claim later.
